Perfect World Acquires Torchlight Developer Runic Games (05/19/2010)

Today, Perfect World revealed its financial report for the first quarter of 2010. Perfect World's turnover in the first quarter increased 47.0% while its gross profit increased 45.9%. As the company keeps growing, it acquired Torchlight's developer Runic Games by buying its majority stakes for about 8.4 million USD. According to Perfect World, they hope that Runic Games' creativity and experience can help them to develop more AAA games.

Now you can find Torchlight at Perfect World's official site but the game is still marked as a single player game. The single player version of Torchlight has proven itself a high quality game, and it has sold half a million copies so far and landed on Mac platform last week. Currently the developer Runic Games is working on Torchlight MMO version which is said to be released in 2012, now they have Perfect World and its subsidiary PWE, a leading publisher for MMOs to back them up, hopefully Torchlight MMO will be a "big title." By the way, PWE's game are mostly free-to-play with microtransaction, will Torchlight follow this way?
